Orlando Business Journal web producer
Orlando Business Journal is looking for a Web producer to cover local business news for our online readers and direct day-to-day coverage at orlandobusinessjournal.com. This is a fast-paced position best suited for candidates who thrive on tight deadlines, enjoy covering a variety of topics and are comfortable working and making decisions in a demanding, multimedia publishing environment.
Hours: Full Time
Reports To: Editor
Duties: Each day, you'll write several general assignment stories, including breaking news and enterprise pieces, across a wide range of topics. You'll also set the newsroom's daily plan for online coverage and work with reporters to be sure all of our bases are covered.
Skills: You must be a strong reporter and writer, and be good at sourcing photography and other multimedia elements, analyzing online traffic reports, providing news direction and executing best search engine optimization practices.
Experience: At least two years journalism experience preferred.

South Florida Business Journal research director
The South Florida Business Journal, covering Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, seeks a research director with a journalistic background to compile our weekly Top 25 lists of industry leaders, Book of Lists, Caspio databases and Power Leader profiles.
Hours: Full Time
Reports To: Editor
Duties: Duties include researching candidates for lists, conducting followup inquiries, entering and organizing information; assisting reporters in finding information; writing about our lists and databases; and utilizing social media. The standard hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but candidates also must have schedule flexibility to attend events before and after normal working hours.
Skills: Preferred candidates will have a demonstrable background in obtaining and organizing information. Strong multitasking skills and telephone speaking abilities are a must. Experience in using Filemaker, Indesign and Word is helpful.
Experience: Proven track record of organization skills and accomplishments.

Columbus Business First research director
Gathers research for and produces top 25 Lists for newspaper, website database directories and other research-based special publications. Provides assistance on enterprise projects as assigned by the Editor. Uploads and maintains Business First research and data.
Hours: Full Time
Reports To: Editor
Duties: Identifies and surveys companies or other sources for lists, including finding and mining established databases. Enters and sorts survey data, and produces lists using pagination software. Builds, updates and maintains Business First proprietary databases. Updates and corrects lists for publication in annual Book of Lists. Identifies additional sources of information to supplement lists. Helps plan annual calendar of lists. Participates in Business First-sponsored events promoting the newspaper.
Skills: Experience with InDesign, Filemaker Pro and Excel; Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter knowledge; database searching, mining and queries; must learn in-house content management system.
Experience: Relevant research background preferred.

Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal staff writer
SBJ/SBD seeks a staff writer to gather and report news for both SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily. Primary areas of coverage will be hockey (NHL) and soccer (MLS). Position is based in New York City.

Duties: Staff writers are expected to beat their competitors on every business story of significance. They should aim to produce a minimum of three, and an average of four, stories for SportsBusiness Journal each week with additional copy for SportsBusiness Daily as reporting and news dictates. They are expected to conceive and produce in-depth, multi-part packages of stories periodically during the year, as well. Staff writers are asked to participate in SBJ-sponsored events promoting the publication and may also be asked to join panel discussions, presentations or broadcast interviews related to their beats.

Duties: Renewing and up-selling to the existing base of customers as well as generating new revenue for print and digital properties through cold-calls and, prospecting. Consultative selling is a key element of this position; it requires identifying the marketing needs of the client and then recommened various print, online, special publications, and event solutions to meet that need. This requires in-person calls to local area businesses, meeting with decision makers and maintaining outstanding relationships that grow and build our clients' businesses. We will look to you to meet specific monthly, quarterly and annual revenue goals, be knowledgeable in the industries you sell, give your personal best and be a team player.
Skills: A value system that requires high integrity and a positive attitude is a must for this position. Our most successful candidate will have experience as a top sales producer who is comfortable in speaking and presenting to key business leaders. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success in selling to client-side advertising/marketing decision makers as well as the various levels of their advertising agencies. Experience selling digital/online advertising is a major plus. The ability to think and sell out side of the box is critical since advertising deals can be highly customizable. Must be proficient in PowerPoint and/or Keynote programs for building sales proposal decks Must be an excellent communicator on the telephone, in written (email) correspondence and in client-facing presentations Must have the ability to ask intelligent, probing questions and be an excellent listener.
